A rising-sign guide to the eighteen-month chapter that begins on Sunday.
There is a specific feeling in the air this week that you may have already clocked without knowing what to call it. A friend of mine texted me at seven this morning to say she woke up with the strange, almost-embarrassing sense that she was supposed to be somewhere different in her life. Not somewhere better. Just, somewhere she had not quite let herself go yet. She asked me if that was a real thing or if she needed more coffee. I told her, both, probably. This Sunday, July 26th, the lunar nodes shift into Aquarius and Leo for the first time in nearly two decades, and the next eighteen months are going to feel a lot like that text. Something is asking to be answered. Pull up a chair. I made tea. Let me walk you through what it means, and where in your life it is going to land.
First, what the nodes actually are
The lunar nodes are not planets. They are two mathematical points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's path in the sky, and they always sit exactly opposite each other. Astrologers pay attention to them because they mark where eclipses happen, and because they seem to mark, in a strangely reliable way, where the collective is being asked to grow and what the collective is being asked to release.
The North Node is the invitation. The unfamiliar medicine. The direction the current is pulling. The South Node is what you already know how to do, the room you have already mastered, the thing you can lean on without thinking, and, sometimes, over-lean on.
From Sunday through late March of 2028, the North Node moves through Aquarius and the South Node moves through Leo. Every eclipse in that window will happen along this same axis, which is what makes it more than a passing transit. It is a whole chapter.
What Aquarius is asking of us
Aquarius, at its best, is the sign of building the thing that lasts longer than the applause. It is the friend who shows up not because you posted but because she noticed. It is the group of strangers who become the community. It is the future you can only make with other people. Aquarius asks less "am I being seen" and more "am I building something worth being part of."
The invitation of the North Node in Aquarius, then, is participation. Contribution. The kind of contribution that does not require anyone to clap. It is a call toward the versions of us that show up for the collective, quietly, consistently, in whatever room we belong in.
What Leo is releasing
The South Node in Leo is not a rejection of Leo. Leo is beautiful. Leo is warmth, presence, generosity, the courage to be seen. The South Node in Leo is asking us to stop waiting to be chosen before we will choose ourselves. It is releasing the version of us that needs the room to clap before we will believe our own voice matters.
Everything on the South Node still gets to be part of us. It just stops being the place we perform from. It becomes the place we love from instead.
By rising sign
Your rising sign is where astrology gets specific. If you know only your sun sign, you can read the section for that too, and it will still land. But if you know your rising sign, that is where the eighteen-month story really lives, because it tells you which house of your chart the North Node is activating.
Aries rising
North Node in your eleventh house of friendship, community, and the future you are building with other people. South Node in your fifth house of creativity, romance, and personal spotlight. The next eighteen months are asking you to redirect some of the energy you have poured into being a solo artist into the collectives and communities that could actually carry your vision further than you can alone. Not less creative. Less alone.
Taurus rising
North Node in your tenth house of career, public life, and legacy. South Node in your fourth house of home, family, and the roots you know by heart. This chapter is pulling you toward a more public expression of the work you have been quietly perfecting. If something has tugged at you about visibility, a job, a title, a platform, take the tug seriously. The old comfort of staying small at home will still be here. The new invitation is to step into the room the world can see you in.
Gemini rising
North Node in your ninth house of learning, travel, philosophy, and meaning. South Node in your third house of daily communication and quick information. Your natural gift is quick and clever and everywhere. The next eighteen months are asking you to slow down long enough to go deeper, into a course, a body of teaching, a longer-form project, a country you have never been to, a belief you have never let yourself examine. Depth over speed.
Cancer rising
North Node in your eighth house of intimacy, shared resources, and the trust work most people avoid. South Node in your second house of what you own, earn, and hold on your own. This chapter is inviting you into deeper financial, emotional, and energetic partnership with other people. Where can you receive support without collapsing your independence into it. Where can you be more honest about what you actually need.
Leo rising
North Node in your seventh house of partnership. South Node in your first house of self. The next eighteen months are the great "who are you doing this with" question. Aquarius in the seventh house asks you to build with people whose values match yours, not just whose company you enjoy. The South Node in Leo landing in your first house is not a demotion of you, it is a softening of the version of you that had to be in front of every room. You can share the front now.
Virgo rising
North Node in your sixth house of routine, health, work rhythm, and the daily texture of your life. South Node in your twelfth house of dreams, rest, escape, and the invisible. This chapter is asking you to build your day the way you would build a temple. Not perfectly. Sustainably. The nap, the walk, the water, the actual medical appointment you have been putting off, the honest hour of work instead of the eight distracted ones. Small structure, big freedom.
Libra rising
North Node in your fifth house of creativity, romance, joy, and self-expression. South Node in your eleventh house of community and other people's approval. If you are a Libra rising, this is one of the most fun eighteen-month chapters possible for you. The invitation is to make the thing. Date the person. Take up creative space you have been quietly editing yourself out of. Stop asking the group chat if it is a good idea. Trust the pull.
Scorpio rising
North Node in your fourth house of home, family, roots, and the private life you build behind closed doors. South Node in your tenth house of career and public visibility. If you have been feeling a quiet pull to redirect some of your intensity away from work and toward home, a house, a family, a garden, a lineage question, this is the chapter that pull belongs to. The career is not going anywhere. The roots are asking for you now.
Sagittarius rising
North Node in your third house of communication, writing, teaching, siblings, and the local community around you. South Node in your ninth house of the big picture, travel, and philosophy. This is a "come back into your own street" kind of chapter. Take the ideas you have gathered on all your adventures and write them down. Teach them. Say them out loud in the neighborhood you actually live in. The far horizons will still be there. The people right next to you are asking to hear from you.
Capricorn rising
North Node in your second house of money, values, and what you actually own. South Node in your eighth house of shared resources and other people's power. This chapter is asking you to reclaim your relationship with your own resources. What is your time actually worth. What is your labor actually worth. Where have you been giving your power away to other people's structures because it felt safer than building your own. Reprice yourself.
Aquarius rising
This one is yours. North Node in your first house. South Node in your seventh house. The next eighteen months are pulling you toward becoming more visible, more specific, and more yourself, on your own terms. If you have been overly shaped by a partnership, a peer group, a way other people see you, this chapter is quietly rewriting all of that. You are being asked to become the you that would exist if no one was watching, and then to walk out into rooms as her.
Pisces rising
North Node in your twelfth house of dreams, rest, the invisible, and the mystical. South Node in your sixth house of daily labor and endless to-do lists. This is one of the most tender, spiritual chapters of your life. The invitation is to trust the dream, the intuition, the pull toward rest, the practice you have been half-embarrassed about. Less doing, more listening. If a practice, retreat, or long-form spiritual study has been calling you, this is the window.
Pisces sun / Pisces rising, worth naming for you specifically: the eighteen-month cycle is one of the most sacred you will experience. Please do not fill it with busywork.
If you want to try something
You do not have to. Truly. You are allowed to just observe this chapter and let it work on you at its own pace.
But if you want a small opening this week, here is a soft practice. Take out a piece of paper. On one side, write one thing you have been over-relying on. A role, a room, a version of you, a way of being liked. On the other side, write one thing that has been tugging at you that you have been quietly waiting for permission to pursue. Do not solve either of them. Just let them sit next to each other on the same page for a week.
Sometimes the paper says more, over seven days, than any of us can figure out in one sitting.
Permission slip granted for keeping the paper, tossing the paper, or forgetting you wrote anything at all.
What I hope you take with you
The nodes are not deadlines. Nothing in your life has to change today because the sky changed today. The invitations of the North Node tend to arrive as small, slightly inconvenient pulls, not as thunderclaps. A conversation you keep meaning to have. A community that keeps appearing. A creative project that will not leave you alone. A dream that keeps repeating.
Notice the pulls. Say yes to the small ones. The bigger yeses will build themselves out of the small ones, in their own time.
Spirit is love. The universe is love. And a shift of the nodes is, in the softest possible way, a love letter from the sky asking you to become a slightly truer version of yourself over the next eighteen months. You do not have to open it on Sunday. But it will be on the table.
When you're ready
If you want a rising-sign-specific read of where the nodes are landing in your actual chart, Susan Adams, our astrology reader, does this work with real care. She will not hand you a horoscope column, she will hand you your chart. That is a different thing entirely.
